Yemen forms the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula and is located at the triple junction between 3 rifts: Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and the Eastern African Rift. This is one of the most active tectonic plate boundaries. Volcanic eruptions in the region are related to the Afar hot spot and the rifting process.
